Opening This Week....

Opening this week, the Sony Pictures Animation film Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, the latest film to capitalize on the 3D family film trend that has been swarming theaters this year. It has its fair share of noteworthy comedians filling in voices, like Bill Hader and Andy Samburg, and not to mention, quite the unique plot, which is just as the title suggests—raining meatballs. But the film probably won’t be more substantial than your average plate of spaghetti and meatballs—safe, satisfying, but nothing new. Also new this, Love Happens, starring Jennifer Aniston and Aaron Eckhart, which, from the trailer, looks like a systematically produced rom-com—famous actor and famous actress fall in love despite preventative obstacles. Blah. Jennifer’s Body, starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried (coming off her Mamma Mia! fame), is another possessed girl turns killer movie, but with a bitey, satirical script, much like a line of other horror film that invite comedy to spice things up. However, this one was penned by the Academy Award-winning writer of Juno, Diablo Cody, so it’s a bit more promising than your average, weekly-released horror (like last weeks’ Sorority Row). The best film opening this week is The Informant!, reuniting Matt Damon with the Ocean’s-series director Steven Soderbergh, telling the true story of a man that attempts to take down an giant agricultural corporation. Matt Damon is sure to give an acclaimed performance, and Soderbergh is always a director to take interest in.
